Richardson Electronics Limited has just acquired the UK specialty electronics repair service company Powerlink, which services the satellite communications market in the Middle East and Europe. Powerlink has offices in London and Dubai, and most recently posted revenues of over 1.3 million pounds for the 2011 fiscal year.

The acquisition is key for Richardson Electronics in its bid to provide cost efficient installation distribution and repair service for microwave tubes. These traveling wave tube (TWT) amplifiers and other satellite communications components are used extensively in the industrial, military, communications and medical industries worldwide. The Powerlink acquisition builds on the existing infrastructure at Richardson and allows the company to take maximum advantage of all channel points in their market. The excellent reputation that Powerlink has developed in the satellite industry is a great foundation upon which Richardson hopes to build a chain for technical service centers.

They also want to expand into repairing gaming systems like the Sony PlayStation an the Nintendo DSI. Global Holdings, Inc has recognized the potential of this huge market for consumer electronics repair, and decided to acquire the company to take advantage of the opportunity. The potential for Apple product repair service is seen as being especially high, given that these devices do not come with a warranty guaranteeing replacement if they are broken by accident.
